20 May 2008
Hi, Team Captain:
Good news-I think. Your team has officially been ACCEPTED for LeMons South, on 26-27
July at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw SC.
So what do you do now? First, read this letter completely. Next, forward it to the rest of your team, one of whom is probably smarter than you are. (Sorry, but you agreed to be captain; clearly you're no genius.)
This letter has three parts. First is the day-by-day schedule; second is a list
of more-or-less useful notices about car specs, safety gear, etc.; third is the
entry-fee invoice. Please note, your fees must be paid in full by Friday, 6 June
'08, to retain your grid spot. That's less than three weeks away, so don't let
the date slip by you.
Still with me? Good, then let's get down to business.

2) MORE-OR-LESS USEFUL NOTICES
Group-Discount Safety Gear: Thanks to event-sponsor Pyrotect, everything you need
to pass driver tech (full-face SA2005 helmet plus SFI-rated driving suit, undies,
gloves, and shoes) can now be bought in one box at a LeMons-only discount: $415
for the bundle. All the gear has been pre-approved; just put it on and go. To get
this rate, you need to be a registered driver and must order online via LeMons:
See the ordering link in the top right-hand corner of your Online Registration home page.
Overnighting: Overnight camping is welcome at CMP. There's no charge for dry camping; power hookups are $50/weekend and will be doled out first-come, first-served.
Noise Limit: Maximum allowable noise level is 92dB @ 50 feet. In other words, mufflers are mandatory-no straight-pipes allowed.
Race #s: Now that your team has been accepted, a pulldown menu of cars #s is visible on the Edit Car Info screen of your online registration. If the number you want isn't shown, somebody else already has it. Tough luck.
Dead Cars: No non-rolling vehicles, spare parts, or fluids may be left at the track after the race. With the express prior permission of CMP staff on-site, complete rolling cars with clear ownership may be accepted by the facility-and then again they may not. They get to choose car-by-car. Be prepared to remove everything, car included, at the end of the race.
Comp Licenses: Every driver needs a valid competition license. A pulldown list of
accepted licenses appears whenever you Add or Edit a Team Member. If the driver has one of the licenses on the list, he or she just needs to show it at tech. If
not, the driver must select the I Need to Buy a Temporary Competition Membership
option. The $50 cost will appear instantly in your online fee total. Once your team has paid its fees in full, that driver will be legal to drive at all 2008 LeMons races.
Roster Changes: For now, feel free to make roster changes-adding members, changing driver names, altering car details-via your online registration. If the changes affect your entry fees, that will automatically be reflected in your shown balance. About five days before the race, the database will be locked; after that, no more changes, please; chances are that we'd screw it up anyway.
Rules: Please study the Rules (www.24HoursofLeMons.com/rules/ closely and re-check them often. It's your responsibility to know the latest version
of all posted rules going into the race.
Supplemental Rules for CMP:
* Rear glass is allowed, but not required.
* Taillights and brake lights are allowed, but not required. Any taillights, sidemarkers,
or brake lights must be fully covered with durable clear tape. Fully taped headlights are allowed, but strongly discouraged.Dropouts: When you enter a race, you're buying the right to compete. Can't get your act together? Tough nuts, Mario. We'll provide contacts to waitlisted teams while they last. If you can get one to buy out your entry, great. If not, don't cry to us.
Fuel, Tires, Other Lodging, Etc: A list of motels, parts stores, etc. can be found on the Event Page (www.24HoursofLeMons.com/events/carolina/.
If you're a local and you've got any hot tips on great BBQ places, relatively roach-less motels, late-night stripper bars, etc., send me an email and I'll add them to the list. Thanks.
3) PAYING YOUR ENTRY FEES
Well, this one was inevitable: Your entry fees are now due. Worse yet, if you don't cough them up in full by Friday, 6 June '08, your spot will be thrown to the next team on the waitlist. Your total fees are shown on your team's Online Registration home page. You can pay online (by credit card or PayPal) via the Pay Now button at the bottom of your Online Registration home page. Or, if you're still into those quaint little things called checks, make one payable to "24 Hours of LeMons" and send it to the address below.
I think that's about it for now. Please feel free to get in touch with thoughts, questions, or issues; I'll pretend that I have a real answer. Thanks again, and see you in July.
Best regards &c--JL
